Help seniors feel confident using their smartphones, tablets, and everyday technology—while learning valuable skills yourself.

As a volunteer with Friends of Ours, you don’t need to be a tech expert. We provide the training, curriculum, and manuals. Your role is to support, encourage, and help guide seniors as they learn at their own pace.

You’ll gain practical knowledge you can use in your own life, including:

• How smartphones and tablets really work
• Email basics, text messaging, and communication tools
• How to update phones and apps safely
• Online safety, privacy, and scam awareness
• How seniors use technology differently—and how to explain things clearly

As a volunteer, you will:

• Support seniors during in-person classes or workshops
• Help answer questions that come up during lessons
• Provide calm, one-on-one assistance when needed
• Encourage learning without rushing or judgment
• Help create a welcoming, respectful learning environment

You are never expected to know everything. Instructors and manuals guide each session.

You may help with:

• Sitting with seniors during lessons
• Assisting with emails, text messages, and basic phone settings
• Helping seniors follow along with printed manuals
• Supporting one-on-one learning moments
• Helping seniors feel comfortable asking questions

We use a simple, structured learning curriculum designed specifically for seniors. Topics include:

• Smartphone and tablet basics
• Calling, texting, and email
• Staying safe online and avoiding scams
• Understanding settings and updates
• Using everyday apps with confidence

All lessons follow our official Friends of Ours learning manuals, so everyone is teaching the same material in the same way.
